The End-of-Summer-Party Sports Page

OYCers enjoyed a terrific weekend at the End-of-Summer party this year. Thanks to the talent in the photos on this page, we have the dubious distinction of keeping the Warped Oar and acquiring a talking fish. More details in the October Daymarker. Got any photos you'd like to see posted? Send them to Liz(zie Bitz) and we'll put them online for you.

Tom Shank and Commodore Peggy Ball accept the coveted Big Mouth Billy Bass award for OYC.

OYCers participated in all the games this weekend, tug-of-war, watermelon-seed spitting, balloon toss, sackrace, and kayak races. Tantallon's Commodore Tom Andrews presided over the weekend events.

OYCs team of Tom Shank, Tom Coldwell, Andrew Kalweit and Anchorman Randy Snowman won the first event, the tug of war, after several heats. The second event, the watermelon-seed-spitting contest was fierce. Jim Ball, Al Clevenger and Tom Shank stood up for OYC, and after at least four rounds, Tom sent a seed flying 26 feet, four inches for the win. The third event, the balloon toss, was close! Tom Shank and Al Clevenger tossed a seemingly unbeatable 29' feet, but were out-tossed by National Potomac in the fourth round. The sack race lasted just two heats. Dani Linck bounced across the finish line first, followed by National Potomac in second and third place. In the next heat, Tom Shank won handily, followed by Tantallon and National Potomac. OYC swept the fifth, and last event, kayaking, finishing first (Tom Shank vs. National Potomac), second (Scott Shipley, rowing unopposed), third (Andrew Kalweit, vs. Tantallon), fourth (Dani Linck against National Potomac's Hannah), and fifth (Dani again). I'm sure OYCs cheerleaders (Scott, Al, and Dani, pictured) inspired all who competed in the games.

If you missed the fun, remember, the OYC Columbus Day party at the Gangplank Marina is coming up this weekend!, October 7-9. Hope you can make it! Contact Barb Egmore for details.
